  1. The hypothalamus(testosterone manager) and pituitary gland(messenger that takes orders from the hypothalamus) control testosterone production.

    When brain detects requirement of testosterone, it produces a hormone called gonadotropin-releasing hormone. This hormone travels to a location in body known as the pituitary gland.

    The pituitary gland is also located in the brain, but in the back of the head. It is responsible for producing a hormone known as luteinizing hormone (LH).
  2. When brain’s pituitary gland detects gonadotropin-releasing hormone, it produces two hormones: follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) (LH). Both of which travel through bloodstream to testicles.
  3. When the FSH and LH hormones reach testicles, FSH instructs the testicles to produce sperm, while LH instructs the Leydig cells to produce more testosterone. Leydig cells are found inside the testicles and are responsible for the production of androgen and testosterone.
  4. It is now up to the Leydig cells to produce testosterone.
  5. Leydig cells take cholesterol that is flowing around the blood and turn it into testosterone. 
    In case if there is not enough cholesterol in the body, then some of the required cholesterol is produced by the testicle itself so that the Leydig cells can convert it to testosterone.
  6. Once testosterone is produced, it’s then released into the bloodstream.
  7. When the hypothalamus detects enough testosterone in blood, it signals the pituitary gland to stop producing LH, causing testicles to produce less testosterone. That’s all
