While Maggi is delicious and save you time and effort, it is not good for your health. From being low in nutrients to being made from maida and high in sodium and saturated fats, there are many reasons that makes it bad for your health.

Low nutrients level

When it comes to nutrition, Maggi is not the healthiest noodle available. It has high levels of calories, saturated fat, carbohydrates, and sodium. Plus, it is very low in essential nutrients such as protein, fiber, and healthy fats.

A single serving of Maggi (70 grams or one small packet) contains about 2.5 g of fiber, which is very low as compared to what you get in a proper meal. This is why, after eating Maggi, most people do not feel full for a long time.

Also, Maggi’s other product, such as atta noodle, which is marketed as being made entirely of wheat, is not entirely made of atta. The Maggi oats noodle is also not entirely made of oats and contains mostly refined flour.

Also, the tastemaker, known as masala, contains only 24% spices, and the rest is made up of fillers.

And if you think eating chicken noodles will give you more protein, you’re wrong because it only has 5% chicken bits.

Made from refined flour (maida)

One of the most valid reasons why Maggi is not good for your health is that it is mainly made of refined flour or maida.

We Indians are well aware that maida is harmful to our health. Still, we continue to feed maida-based Maggi to ourselves and our children simply because it tastes better and is easier to prepare. Plus, children make no complaints about it.

Maida is a highly processed flour that is made from refined wheat. It is low in nutrients and high in starch. People consuming maida-based foods more frequently are at increased risk of weight gain, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and elevated cholesterol.

High levels of sodium

Maggi has high levels of sodium which is not good for your health.

While sodium is undoubtedly an important mineral found in foods, consuming it in excess can lead to health issues such as high blood pressure, which raises the risk of heart disease and stroke. It can also cause water retention and bloating.

A single small packet of Maggi contains approximately 860 mg of sodium or about 37% of the daily value. Many people eat two packets of Maggi or get sodium from other sources as well, which exceeds their daily sodium limit.

High in saturated fat

Maggi has high saturated and trans fats, which are bad fats for your body. 

According to the World Health Organization, eating foods high in saturated and trans fats increases your risk of heart disease and other health conditions, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Even though the amount of trans fats in Maggi is low, they are still bad for your health because they lower your good cholesterol (HDL) and raise your bad cholesterol (LDL).

Maggi is processed food

Maggi is said to be ready in just two minutes because it is already half made in factories. This means that Maggi is processed food.

Processed foods are foods that have been modified from their natural state. This usually means that they’ve been stripped of some of their nutrients or that they’ve been artificially enhanced with chemicals and preservatives.

According to studies,  processed foods can contribute to obesity, diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, dementia, cancer, and mental illness.

Risk of weight gain

If you think that eating Maggi will help you lose weight by avoiding main meals, you are entirely wrong.

People who eat Maggi regularly are at an increased risk of weight gain as it is made up of maida. 

Consuming maida slows down your body’s metabolic rate, which causes your body to stop burning up the fats and instead start storing them. This eventually leads to weight gain and many other problems such as stress, headaches, and migraines.

High risk of diabetes

According to research, people who consume maida and maida-based products such as Maggi are at increased risk of developing diabetes.

Maida has a glycemic index of 85, which raises blood sugar levels rapidly after consuming it. 

Consuming foods with a high glycemic index can cause weight gain and increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

It contains harmful ingredients

Maggi contains ingredients such as maida, thickeners, colors, humectants, acidity regulators, and flavour enhancers that your body does not require. They are only added to enhance the food’s appearance and texture.

While acidity regulators have some advantages in keeping your food safe on the shelf, they can also cause health problems such as vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea.

Also, thickeners are still under extensive research by nutrition scientists, Although some have been shown to be harmful to gut health when used as food ingredients.

Final words

I didn’t find a single reason to eat Maggi, so I have ditched it from my life. If you want to eat noodles, there are plenty of healthy options on the market made entirely of whole wheat grains. They may be a little pricey, but not as much as hospital bills.

Don’t be fooled by the claims made by Maggi or other noodle brands on the market. Always read the labels on the noodles for the ingredients and nutritional value.

If you can’t give up your Maggi masala addiction, try the aata or oats noodles variety. Although they are not entirely healthy, they contain less maida than the regular ones.
